The Trump administration is claiming that they worked with Pakistan to free the family.
MSNBC’s Hans Nichols reported Thursday that President Trump’s administration had secured the release of an American family held captive by the Taliban.
“We just heard, moments ago, from President Donald Trump claiming credit, saying that the United States government, working with the Pakistani government, secured the release of this family,” Nichols said.
The American family has been handed over to U.S. authorities and ready to head home.
However, Nichols said that it was not clear how Pakistan was involved in the release, given many Trump administration officials’ distrust of the country.
Trump is making a habit of securing the release of U.S. hostages. In April, the president convinced Egypt to release American aid worker Aya Hijazi.
His administration also brought home student Otto Warmbier from North Korea, before he tragically died.
