"I got a vote. I will not vote for Darnold if they change the name of that horse," Brent Musburger declared.

Legendary sports broadcaster Brent Musburger said he would not vote for the University of Southern California’s quarterback Sam Darnold for the Heisman Trophy if USC changed the name of its horse during an interview on the popular Barstool Sport’s podcast, “Pardon my Take.”

USC is currently considering changing the name of its horse from Traveler because Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee favorite horse shared the same name.

USC’s football team is ranked fourth nationally in the College football preseason rankings, and USC’s QB Darnold is the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy in a crowded field.

Musburger voiced objection to the idea of USC changing Traveler’s name during the interview, telling the hosts that we would not vote for Darnold to win the Heisman if USC does, in fact, change the horse’s name.

“I got a vote. I will not vote for Darnold if they change the name of that horse,” Musburger declared.

Musburger, a member of the media, gets one of the 870 votes that comprise the Heisman Trophy voting pool. In a year that features a wide open field it might be a consequential vote come December.
