Pelosi tells the reporter she will be able to answer that question in September.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) dodged on whether she thought Democrats would retake the House in 2018 during her weekly press conference on Thursday.
A reporter asked Pelosi if she anticipated a scenario where she would be Speaker of the House in two years, given the current political climate surrounding the Trump administration.
“We don’t really talk politics around here that much,” Pelosi joked.
Pelosi instructed the reporter to talk with Rep. Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), who serves as chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and ask if he wanted to talk politics.
Then Pelosi told the reporter about the political climate Democrats found themselves in back in 2005 and how they were eventually able to overcome President Bush’s high approval rating at the time to retake the House.
“So I’ll be able to tell you more that is to say that is by September,” Pelosi concluded.
Pelosi has routinely claimed Democrats would retake the House in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016. None of those predictions were correct.
