Stoltenberg said that President Trump “has helped” in gaining commitments from NATO members to match their defense spending responsibility
Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO, said that President Trump “has helped” in gaining commitments from NATO members to match their defense spending responsibility on CNN Thursday.
“We have turned a corner and European defense spending has now started to increase,” Stoltenberg said.
Host Alisyn Camerota asked if President Trump deserved the credit for that change, calling the development “fascinating.”
Stoltenberg added that European NATO members had reversed years of declines in defense spending in 2016, but he did not specify whether that reversal occurred before or after Trump won the 2016 election.
“[Trump] has helped by having such a strong focus on the importance burden-sharing defense spending,” Stoltenberg said.
