Republican candidate for Virginia Governor Ed Gillespie is out with a new ad attacking his Democratic opponent, Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, for supporting sanctuary cities.
The race for Virginia Governor is shaping up to be a close one, with most polls showing the two candidates tied or Northam with a slight lead over Gillespie.
The ad is titled, “Ralph Northam’s Risky Policies,” and opens with a narrator asking, “Who will keep your family safe?” while a police siren goes off in the background and an image of Northam appears on screen.
“Ralph Northam cast the deciding vote in favor of sanctuary cities that let illegal immigrants who commit crimes back on the street. Ralph Northam, risky policies,” the narrator continued.
The ad the switch to a different narrator who touts endorsements that Gillespie has received from the Virginia Police Benevolent Association and local sheriffs.
“Ed Gillespie will ban sanctuary cities and get tough on illegal immigration,” the ad says. “Ed Gillespie for a safer, stronger Virginia.”
