New Poll Shows American Public Supports GOP Tax Reform Plan

A new Politico/Morning Consult poll shows that the American public supports the outline for tax reform that Republicans released in September.

According to the poll, which was released on Wednesday, 48 percent of registered voters say that they support the Republican proposal compared to 37 percent who say that they oppose it.

Republicans overwhelmingly support the tax reform plan with 83 percent of GOP voters saying they are behind it.

While a majority of Democrats remain opposed to the Republican tax reform, a majority of those polled do support lowering the tax rate on small businesses to 25 percent, with 64 percent of those polled supporting the idea.

Other areas of the Republican tax reform plan that drew a majority of support from those polled include: “doubling the standard deduction, to $24,000 (64 percent support); increasing the child tax credit (64 percent); and eliminating the estate tax (53 percent).”
