On Tuesday, NFL legends Jim Brown, and Ray Lewis met with President-elect Donald Trump to discuss Brown’s Amer-I-Can program.
“It couldn’t have been a better meeting,” Brown told reporters. “The graciousness, the intelligence, the reception we got was fantastic.”
Lewis elaborated on the meeting and how Amer-I-Can would work with the Trump administration.
“What we believe with the Trump administration is if we can combine these two powers of coming together forget black and white,” Lewis said. “Black and white is irrelevant. The bottom line is job creation, economic development in these urban neighborhoods, to change the whole scheme of what our kids see.”
A reporter asked Lewis about Trump’s outreach to the African American community during the campaign and if it was appropriate.
“What I do feel is that he is wide open to change what hasn’t been changed,” Lewis said and cited statistics about solving poverty.
“I’ve been listened to, and we definitely have a partnership,” Brown added about his meeting with Trump.
Lewis also praised Trump’s nomination of Ben Carson as Secretary Housing and Urban Development.
