NRCC Hits Dem Candidates on Single-Payer in New Ads

The congressional GOP committee is trying to sink Democrats in battleground districts by tying them to the extreme plan.

The National Republican Congressional Committee released a new ad on Thursday attacking Democrats in Pennsylvania for their stance (or lack thereof) on single-payer health care.

“Big government has destroyed the American health care system as we know it, but it gets worse,” the narrator says. “A new plan brought to you by the same Democrats who gave us Obamacare.”

The ad then uses footage of news reports on the Charlie Gard case, where the U.K. government-run health care system prevented a young child from acquiring experimental treatment for his rare disease.

“What does this mean? Government control of your doctor, hospital, and even your prescriptions,” the narrator continues. “It could even abolish Medicare Part D and the VA.”

“Tell Nancy Pelosi and the Pennsylvania Democrats, we can’t afford single-payer health care,” he concludes.

PoliticsPA notes that the ad currently targets Chrissy Houlahan a Democratic candidate in PA-06:

The ad continues a message the NRCC has been pushing against Democratic candidates and incumbents. The NRCC looked to divide Democrats in the district on single payer in July, ending with Houlahan leaving open a stance on either side of the issue.

“Chrissy Houlahan refuses to disavow a single-payer health care system that would cost taxpayers $32 trillion. She may have set a new record for embracing the far-left agenda of Nancy Pelosi and the Washington establishment,” NRCC spokesman Chris Martin said in an email.

Single-payer appears to be another albatross that Republicans will tie around Democrats necks, with the NRSC planning to go after senators on the issue.

But the Pennsylvania ad demonstrates another weapon in the NRCC’s arsenal: the unpopularity of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). GOP groups successfully tied GA-06 Democrat Jon Ossoff to Pelosi, sinking his hopes of scoring an upset in the traditionally Republican district.
