Speaking to MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, New York Times columnist Frank Bruni said that President Trump would win reelection in 2020 if he holds up his promise to bring jobs back to the United States.
“Come 2020, if more people have jobs, if people feel their lives have improved economically, if people feel they’re safer in this country, Donald Trump will be reelected,” Bruni said, paraphrasing Newt Gingrich.
“That’s the real metric, not whether he’s sitting down with CEOs, not whether he gets a few headlines, people will feel an improvement in their lives…and he’s ultimately going to live and die by that.”
Bruni, an unabashed Clinton supporter during the 2016 election, identified the major subject of Trump’s presidency as “theater vs. reality.”
For Bruni, the main question over the next four years will be whether Trump will be all talk or all action.
