Ash Carter also implored the Trump administration to do more to respond to Russia’s election interference.
Former Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, who served under President Obama, said the former president’s actions against Russia following their interference in the 2016 election were “not sufficient.”
“I think [Obama] did take some actions and I said, in defense, we took a wide range of actions,” Carter first said. “I think it’s quite clear that that was not sufficient.”
Carter emphasized that Obama “took some steps,” but admitted that Russia felt as though they escaped without consequence following the hack.
He said that the Trump administration should hit Russia back for their actions during the 2016 campaign.
