As Democrats gloat on the apparent end of the GOP’s Obamacare repeal efforts, signs point to a potential fight over Obamacare spending in April.
In the wake of defeat on his efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare, President Donald Trump tweeted on Sunday that the conservative House Freedom Caucus helped saved “Planned Parenthood & Ocare!”
Democrats are smiling in D.C. that the Freedom Caucus, with the help of Club For Growth and Heritage, have saved Planned Parenthood & Ocare!

Democrats, of course, were gleeful in the wake of the GOP’s failure to repeal Obamacare, taking a victory lap despite Obamacare’s many, and continuing, problems.
New reports out this week, though, indicate that Democrats may need to check their enthusiasm at the door come April. That same House Freedom Caucus that tanked the American Health Care Act (AHCA), or ‘Trumpcare,’ may be willing to risk a government shutdown to defund Planned Parenthood, and/or Obamacare.
One top promise [the House Freedom Caucus] and other conservatives had to hoped to deliver on with the Obamacare repeal was defunding Planned Parenthood over its provision of abortions.
Now, their next chance comes with a spending measure needed to keep the government operating after April 28, when current funding runs out.
Tuesday, House Republicans vowed to eventually pass Obamacare repeal (“[w]e’re not going to stop until we get it done,” House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy).
But the government funding fight over Planned Parenthood – and, indeed, the billions of dollars on the line for Obamacare subsidies, taxes, and more – could be the first test over how serious House Republicans are about repealing President Obama’s signature domestic achievement.
