“We need to continue to create economic opportunity through trade agreements, through smart tax reforms,” Penny Pritzker told David Axelrod.
President Obama’s Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, called for smart tax reform during an interview with David Axelrod on his podcast, “The Axe Files,” which was released on Monday.
Pritzker and Axelrod were discussing the need to retrain the American work force for 21st Century jobs.
“This economic divide we have in this country in not sustainable, and it’s not right,” Pritzker told Axelrod. “This is the issue of our time … to help Americans be prepared for the opportunities that will come.”
Pritzker continued by saying that regardless of political party, governors see this issue and want a solution.
“To me, we need to produce practical solutions that can be implemented at the local and state level,” Pritzker continued. “This is where federal policy matters. We need to continue to create economic opportunity, through trade agreements, through smart tax reforms, through infrastructure investment.”
Pritzker concluded by saying that the United States has to keep up with the kind competition that China presents for American workers to thrive. Pritzker adds her name to the growing list of top Democrats, like Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), who are calling for tax reform.
