Former Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, who served under President Obama, praised President Trump’s pick for Secretary of Energy, Rick Perry, Sunday on CNN.
Moniz praised Perry for backing off previous desires to cut the Department of Energy right at the beginning of his confirmation hearing.
“Subsequently, now, he’s been in office a pretty short time, maybe 10 days or so, and he came right out of the box strongly supporting the national laboratory system, the [Department of Energy’s] major role in innovation, the issue of supporting basic research,” Moniz said.
Moniz added that Perry “wants to be a champion” for the Department of Energy.
