House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) claimed during a CNN Town Hall that sanctuary cities make Americans safer.
Sanctuary cities do not deport undocumented immigrants, arguing instead that by bringing them into the community they make them safer because they can report crimes without the fear of being deported.
“As far as sanctuary cities is concerned, our city of San Francisco is a sanctuary city, and we see it as a place where it makes us safer. It makes us safer because people can – can go to school, they can get driver licenses, they can be witnesses against other violence they see in the community,” Pelosi told one town hall participant about sanctuary cities.
Laura Wilkerson, whose son was tied up and killed by an undocumented immigrant, confronted Pelosi about her support of sanctuary cities following this answer.
“I do want to say to you that in our sanctuary cities our people are not disobeying the law,” Pelosi told Wilkerson. There is considerable evidence that contradicts Pelosi claim.
Pelosi went on to say, “these are law-abiding citizens, it enables them to be there without being reported to ICE, in case of another crime that they might bear witness to.”
