As recently as October 2016, Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN) said he opposed same-sex marriage and abortion.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi falsely claimed that no member of the Democrats’ caucus is anti-LBGT during a discussion with the Commonwealth Club of California on Tuesday.
KQED’s, Scott Shafer asked Pelosi what makes someone a Democrat, citing the party’s recent divisions over allowing pro-choice Democrats into the caucus.
Pelosi told Shafer that it’s Democratic values that unite the party.
“We don’t have anybody that’s anti-LBGT. I mean, we don’t have that,” Pelosi said. “Even on the issue of a woman’s right to choose…it’s not an issue in our caucus because hardly anybody is not onboard with that.”
However, Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN) opposed both same-sex marriages and abortion as recently as November of 2016.
“Pushing gun control drives people [in my district] crazy, gay marriage, abortion, deficit spending, you name it. All of that stuff adds up to be a problem for Democrats,” Peterson told the Washington Post in a November 2016 interview.
