Pelosi Not Worried About High Cost of California’s Single-Payer Health Care Proposal

The House Minority Leader highlighted the program’s immense cost and said that Obamacare was a step toward a single-payer system.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi expressed optimism over California’s single-payer health care proposal‘s high price tag at a “Resistance Summer” rally in Texas on Wednesday. In fact, Pelosi was so thrilled with the $400 billion dollar program that she said the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was a step toward a national program.

Pelosi pointed out that half of the price tag would come from the federal government under Obamacare.

Where would the remaining $200 billion come from? Well, California could eliminate every single other state government program and dedicate their entire budget to the single payer system to cover the cost.

“One is a step to the other,” Pelosi said of the relationship between Obamacare and single-payer health care.

“I’ve been carrying single-payer probably before you were born,” she said.

Pelosi then said that Democrats would have to stop Republican attempts at repeal and replace of Obamacare so they could implement a California-style health care system on the entire United States.
