POLL: Republican Leads Montana Special Election by Double Digits

Republican Greg Gianforte leads Democrat Rob Quist by a healthy margin…will it tighten before May 25?

Rob Quist Poll

Democrats eager for a win might have to wait just a bit longer. A new poll from Emerson College showed the Montana special election to replace Rep. Ryan Zinke – President Trump’s new Interior Secretary – is not as close as Democrats might have hoped.

Republican Greg Gianforte leads Democrat Rob Quist by 15 percentage points, 52-37. The results mirror a Gravis Marketing poll conducted earlier this month that showed Gianforte with a 12-point lead.

Following better than anticipated results in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District special election, Democrats are eager for a win to demonstrate some kind of anti-Trump movement brewing. Ossoff’s inability to prevent a runoff in GA-06, despite spending millions, slowed any Democrat momentum, and Quist’s sluggish poll numbers in Montana spell trouble for Democrats’ hopes, too.

Democrats also failed to secure a win in a special election in Kansas’ Fourth Congressional District, where Republican Ron Estes defeated Democrat James Thompson.

The Emerson poll showed just seven percent of voters are undecided. Election day in Montana is May 25.
