“I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters,” Trump said in 2016.
A new poll seems to indicate that a majority of supporters of President Trump have no plans to ever stop supporting him.
Voters were asked, “Can you think of anything that Trump could do … in his term as president that would make you approve/disapprove of the job he is doing, or not?
Fully 61 percent of Trump supporters said there was nothing that could change their minds about Trump. The poll was conducted both before and after the events in Charlottesville last weekend.
The response seems to validate one of Trump’s more eyebrow-raising remarks from the campaign trail in which he told an Iowa audience, “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters.”
That line was used in attack ads by Hillary Clinton and her supporting groups.
Breaking the numbers down by political party, 53 percent of Republicans said they approve of Trump and won’t change that view for any reason. Equally, 53 percent of Democrats said they disapprove of Trump and won’t change their opinion, either.
