Race for Virginia Attorney General is Statistical Tie

Despite a significant fundraising advantage, Democrat Mark Herring finds himself locked in a dead heat.

A new Suffolk University poll shows Republican John Adams and Democrat Mark Herring locked in a dead heat despite Herring’s significant fundraising advantage.

The poll found that 39 percent of voters supported Herring while 37 percent supported Adams. That two-point differential is well inside the poll’s 4.4 percent margin of error. Twenty-three percent remain undecided.

This comes despite Herring’s significant fundraising advantage.

The Associated Press reported:

“Virginia Democratic Attorney General Mark Herring, who is seeking a second term, ended the period with more than $2.9 million on hand and a commanding financial lead over his GOP opponent John Adams, who had $600,000.”

Among those donating to Herring’s campaign is Mike Bloomberg’s anti-Second Amendment group Everytown For Gun Safety, which donated $300,000 to his campaign. Everytown previously donated $1 million to Herring in 2013.

It appears that Herring’s decision to go negative on TV before Labor Day with an attack ad could be backfiring.
