Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), a St. Louis Cardinals fan, revealed on a Politico podcast on Friday that Red Sox fans had pelted him with a beer can at a game during his time in college.

Schumer told Politico’s Ben White that he had gone to school in Boston and tried to get a ticket to a Cardinals game. The future senator had to go through expensive back channels to obtain a ticket, working for several days to raise enough money.

When the Cardinals first scored after two batters, Schumer “got up out of my chair, raise my arms high. ‘Go Cardinals! We’re going all the way!”

A Red Sox fan behind Schumer then nailed him with a beer can.

The Boston police then blamed Schumer for the incident and tossed him out of the ballpark, according to the native New Yorker.
