Harry Reid had a hard time hiding his contempt for Democratic West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin’s recent actions in an interview on CNN, saying, “Joe Manchin obviously is running for a Cabinet spot.”
Interviewer Manu Raju asked Reid about the possibility of Manchin and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) joining the Trump administration, to which Reid only expressed positive feelings about Heitkamp.
“Heidi Heitkamp, I would doubt very seriously, she being the populist that she is, that she would do that,” Reid said.
Raju asked Reid if he would be supportive of either Manchin or Heitkamp joining the administration.
“We’ve done stuff in the last few weeks to try to make Manchin happy, so I mean, he’d be another Democrat, at least temporarily,” Reid said.
Reid’s inclusion of the phrase, “at least temporarily” may have signaled that Reid is pessimistic about Manchin’s chances for re-election as a Democrat in West Virginia, a state Trump carried with nearly 69 percent of the vote.
