The group is backing Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley, who is still just exploring a Senate run…
The Club For Growth is wading into the Missouri Senate race in a big way, according to a new report from Politico Pro.
Citing “two Republicans with knowledge of the group’s fundraising,” Politico reported that they have raised $10 million for Josh Hawley, the Missouri attorney general who is still just considering a Senate bid. An official announcement from Hawley about his intentions to challenge incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) is expected soon.
How did the group raise $10 million in the short time since Hawley formed an exploratory committee last month? Politico explains:
One major donor pledged to match millions of dollars in donations earmarked for Hawley, and the Club has been collecting donations against that pledge, the two Republican sources said.
McCaskill reported had $5.1 million in her campaign account as of the end of June, and will likely have the financial support of numerous liberal outside groups.
