Tillerson thinks that President Trump’s approach to North Korea is working, despite recent missile test.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told Fox News’ Chris Wallace that the Trump administration is early in the stages of applying economic and diplomatic pressure on North Korea, and that North Korea’s recent missile test show they are starting to feel that pressure.
Wallace asked Tillerson whether North Korea’s recent string of successful missile tests means that the Trump administration policy towards the country isn’t working.
“We are early in the stages of applying the economic pressure as well as the diplomatic pressure to the regime in North Korea. Hopefully, they will get the message that the pathways of continuing their nuclear arms program is not a pathway to security or certainly prosperity,” Tillerson responded.
Tillerson continued, “the ongoing testing is disappointing, it’s disturbing, and we ask that they cease that because until that cease that testing, clearly they have not changed their view.
“I think we are early in the game of putting pressure on them and one could also interpret that perhaps they are just acting out now in response to some of this pressure that I believe they are beginning to feel,” Tillerson concluded.
