Kathy Griffin posted a photo of herself holding President Trump’s severed head, on Tuesday, but that’s not stopping Franken from appearing with her in July.
Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota Wednesday that he is standing by comedian Kathy Griffin and will appear with her in July for an already scheduled event.
Griffin drew outrage on Tuesday for photos released from a shoot in which she held up President Trump’s severed head.
Before these pictures emerged, Franken and Griffin were scheduled to hold an event on July 7 in Beverly Hills to promote Franken’s new book, “Al Franken: Giant of the Senate.”
Camerota asked Franken if Griffin could recover from the public outrage her photo drew.
“Well, I think she did the right thing. I think asking for forgiveness, and acknowledging – this was a horrible mistake. And so, I think she can,” Franken told Camerota.
Camerota followed up by asking Franken if he would still appear with Griffin in July.
“Yes,” Franken responded.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Franken is standing by Griffin, considering that Griffin has donated “thousands of dollars to Franken and other Democrats political campaigns.”
