During Wednesday’s Secretary of State confirmation hearing, Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) interrogated President-elect Trump’s pick to head the State Department, Rex Tillerson, about ExxonMobil’s previous knowledge of climate change effects. The line of questioning ended in a testy exchange between the two.
According to Kaine, an investigation by environmentalists showed that ExxonMobil knew the harm of climate change but funded “climate science denial” anyway.
Tillerson would not comment for ExxonMobil, his former company, prompting Kaine to ask, “Do you lack the knowledge to answer my question or are you refusing to answer my question?”
“A little of both,” Tillerson answered.
Kaine, visibly put off by Tillerson’s response, paused, then said, “I have a hard time believing you lack the knowledge to answer my question, but that’s an editorial comment just like your comment was an editorial comment.”
