Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) praised former Secretary of Labor and current DNC Chair candidate Tom Perez, stopping just short of a endorsement in an appearance on CNN’s New Day Wednesday.
“I happen to like Tom Perez a lot,” Whitehouse said, praising his connections to Rhode Island: “He’s a graduate of Brown University. He’s been to Rhode Island a lot.”
Whitehouse also lauded Perez’s government work: “He fought in real life as Secretary of Labor. He was a really good Civil Rights Division leader at [the Department of] Justice.”
However, Whitehouse declined to officially endorse any candidate in the DNC race.
