Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) told CNN that the entire purpose of the Republican tax reform plan was to provide middle-class Americans with tax cuts during an interview on Thursday.

House Republicans unveiled their tax reform plan on Thursday, and shortly thereafter, CNN’s Phil Mattingly sat down with Ryan for an exclusive interview about the Republican plan.

Mattingly asked Ryan if he could guarantee that all middle-class taxpayers will see a tax cut.

“That’s the purpose of this, and I just tell people to take a look at what the bill is,” Ryan responded. “If you have kids, take that number and multiply it by $600. That’s the increase in your tax credit.”

Ryan then touted how the Republican plan would double the standard deduction from $12,000 for individuals and $24,000 for families.
