Democrats expected 2017 to be a boom year for their party. The minority party in the House and Senate and locked out of the White House, Democrats insurgency was to begin with a vengeance in the Age of Trump.

But none of that is happening. Key demographic groups that Democrats must win over to take back any position of power in Washington, D.C. are souring on Democrats rather than rallying around party leaders.

According to Politico, Hispanics, unmarried women, and white millennials have all decreased in their support of the party:

An October poll from Women’s Voices Women Vote Action Fund, a progressive nonprofit, showed opinions about the Democratic brand falling by double digits over several months among a handful of key groups, including Hispanics (from 47 percent positive and 34 percent negative to 39 percent positive and 40 percent negative), unmarried women (52-30 to 44-37) and white millennials (34-46 to 29-51). Public polling from CNN, POLITICO/Morning Consult and Quinnipiac has also shown the Democratic Party to be unpopular and not getting better this year despite the GOP’s struggles.

It’s a disaster for Democrats who need party support ahead of the 2018 midterms. The Republican National Committee is vastly outraising its Democratic counterpart, and even loyal liberals are questioning Democratic leaders’ strategies in recent weeks.

Adding fuel to the Democratic infighting is a blistering new op-ed from former interim DNC Chair Donna Brazile in which she explains how the Democratic presidential primary process was rigged to benefit Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders. With nearly two-year-old wounds left unhealed and no party leader emerging, it’s no wonder Democrats are sinking in public approval polls.
