The RNC Reached the DNC’s 2017 Fundraising Goal in Just 9 Months

Through the first nine months of 2017, the Republican National Committee has raised $104.4 million.

Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Tom Perez set the lofty goal of doubling the organization’s budget from $50 million to $100 million in 2017. The Republican National Committee (RNC) has accomplished that goal in just nine months.

The RNC has reportedly raised more than $104.4 million in the first nine months of 2017.

While the DNC has not yet released its fundraising numbers for September, it had raised just $46.3 million through August, well behind where the DNC needs to be if it hopes to achieve Perez’s goal.

In June, following historically poor fundraising numbers in May, Perez told MSNBC that he just needed more time at the DNC to get things turned around.

But, how much more time are Democrats going to give Perez to right the ship?

In recent weeks a string stories have been published about how top Democratic politicians and bundlers have grown restless with Perez’s poor performance as DNC chair.

The Hill reported just last week about one top Democratic bundler’s displeasure with Perez:

“A lot of us feel like there’s nothing exciting, nothing invigorating coming from that building and particularly from Tom Perez,” said one top Democratic bundler, who complained that the DNC chairman didn’t even coordinate the first meeting for fundraisers until several weeks ago.

“I’ve never heard from him. Not once,” the bundler said. “If you want to show strength, you personally reach out to all the big fundraisers.”

Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-IL) said that Perez had “a lot of room for improvement.”

If the DNC posts another poor fundraising month, it could increase calls to replace Perez as DNC chair.
