CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Tim Kaine during an interview if longtime Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal would be allowed to serve in a Hillary Clinton administration.
Blumenthal is a controversial figure within the Democratic Party for comments he made during the 2008 Democratic primary in which he was accused of pushing the birther narrative against Barack Obama.
This caused former Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel to bar Blumenthal from holding a position in Hillary Clinton’s State Department.
Kaine dodged multiple times when pressed on the topic by Tapper and gave no clear answer on whether Blumenthal would be allowed to serve in a Hillary Clinton administration.
