On Meet the Press, Hillary Clinton’s running mate could not defend her flip-flop on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
On Sunday’s Meet the Press, Chuck Todd pressed Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) on Hillary Clinton’s position on TPP.
Kaine first avoided talking about Clinton’s position, explaining his own concerns for TPP and his original vote to give President Obama trade promotion authority.
Todd continued pressing, asking if Kaine needed to oppose TPP to join Clinton’s ticket. Kaine went back to his talking points on “deep concerns” with TPP.
Todd finished the exchange by asking if Clinton and Kaine will pursue an Asian trade agreement, or some “version of TPP,” when in office. Kaine could not say, asserting twice he has not talked with Clinton about that.
In October 2015, PolitiFact rated Clinton’s position on TPP a “full flop.”
