Tim Kaine Suggests Replacing Robert E. Lee Statue With Pocahontas

The Virginia Senator is unhappy with the statues the state has chosen to represent itself in the U.S. Capitol.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) suggested that Virginia replace the Robert E. Lee statue in the U.S. Capitol with a statue of Pocahontas in an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday.

Each state picks two statues to represent its history, and those statues are displayed inside the U.S. Capitol building. Virginia has chosen George Washington and Robert E. Lee to represent its state.

Kaine said he disagreed with the choice of Lee.

“Why wouldn’t you think about Pocahontas?” Kaine asked, saying that without her actions, “we wouldn’t even be here.”
