CNN’S John Berman called out DNC Chair candidate Tom Perez for not answering whether or not he would support a narrower version of President Trump’s travel ban.
On Thursday, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down President Trump’s travel ban. The Trump administration has already stated they intend to take this all the way to the Supreme Court. Some are speculating that President Trump could rescind his executive order and issue a new executive order that removes the parts the court struck down.
CNN’s Poppy Harlow asked Perez if he would support this latter option, given that the former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) and the FBI director in 2015 said there are risks associated with this and the vetting process is not perfect.
“Ready, fire, aim is not a way to run the federal government,” Perez went on to tell Harlow, and proceeded to dodge the question.
Harlow pressed Perez, asking if there was any form of this travel ban that Democrats could get on board with.
Perez responded by claiming, “the reality is this president doesn’t talk to Democrats.”
Harlow interjected, “he had some Democratic lawmakers over to lunch at the White House this week, as you know.”
Confronted with this fact, Perez changed tactics and proceeded to attack the policies of the Trump administration.
“Mr. Secretary, I’ll move on, but are you not going to answer the question about whether or not you could accept some kind of rewritten executive order? Because I’ll move on if you’re not going to answer that,” Berman interjected.
Perez proceeded to dodge the question, briefly addressing the vetting and then electing to attack the Trump administration for not vetting their Cabinet nominees.
