Perez said that the DNC is supporting Democratic Omaha mayoral candidate Heath Mello, but that stance may have turned off some of his liberal base.
Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez said on MSNBC on Monday night that the DNC is supporting Democratic Omaha mayoral candidate Heath Mello, but that stance may have turned off some of his liberal base.
Mello has come under fire from the left-wing for his pro-life beliefs, as the Daily Kos documented.
Liberals took issue with Mello’s stance on “forced ultrasounds,” which would require women to receive an ultrasound before obtaining an abortion. Various comments targeted Mello for his beliefs, and for Sanders’ support of the candidate.
As Perez and Sanders attempt to traverse the country and unite the party, they may be driving its rank-and-file members farther apart.
