President Trump is in the midst of a ten-day trip to Asia, visiting Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Hawaii.

Trump is in China on Wednesday, but he is the beneficiary of good reviews from his first two stops on the trip, in Japan and South Korea.

1 for 1: JAPAN

Trump arrived in Japan on Sunday, November 5, and spent several days with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Abe tweeted that Trump’s visit was “historic,” and showed “the unshakeable bonds of the Japan-U.S. alliance.”

2 for 2: SOUTH KOREA

Trump then spent several days with South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Reuters noted in a Wednesday report that South Koreans were surprised that Trump was less confrontational than they expected.

In his first trip to South Korea as president, Trump also significantly toned down his criticism of what he once called a “horrible” free trade deal with South Korea. He says now he will “find a fair and reciprocal” deal after earlier threatening to terminate the pact.

…On South Korea’s largest internet portal, Naver.com, some of Moon’s supporters welcomed the address. They said Trump displayed a greater knowledge of the two Koreas than his previous statements had indicated.

3 for 3? CHINA

The hard part of Trump’s trip comes on Wednesday. Trump is visiting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and North Korea “will be high on the agenda,” according to a senior administration official.

Xi thus far has resisted some efforts to rein in North Korea. China is the closest thing North Korea has to an ally on the world stage.
