Trump and a GOP Senator Go to War

It’s not Mitch McConnell, but Trump has engaged in a brutal, verbal tit-for-tat with a retiring GOP senator.

Donald Trump Red Team

President Trump engaged in his latest battle with a Republican senator over the weekend, starting a brutal and unexpected tit-for-tat after a series of tweets he sent on Sunday morning about retiring Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN).

Corker responded to Trump’s tweets on Sunday morning, with a tweet that as of Monday morning has received over 128,000 retweets.

Trump responded on – where else? – Twitter, criticizing Corker for his work on the Iran deal.

Corker escalated the feud on Sunday with a lengthy interview with The New York Times. In the interview, Corker:

  • Said Trump has put America “on the path to World War III”
  • Told Trump this is not “‘The Apprentice’ or something”
  • Refuted Trump’s Twitter claims that Corker asked for an endorsement
  • Claimed most of his colleagues in the Senate “understands what we’re dealing with here”
  • Said Trump doesn’t “[appreciate] that when the president of the United States speaks and says the things that he does, the impact that it has around the world”

Corker, who is approaching a swan song in the U.S. Senate, will be one to watch in the coming months.
