The president also sent thoughts and prayers to victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
President Trump dedicated the bulk of his weekly address on Friday to the commemoration of Constitution Day, which will come over the weekend.
“This week, the United States celebrates the 230th anniversary of the signing of our remarkable Constitution,” Trump said. “[The constitutional delegates] gave us a constitutional system that protected our liberties by enshrining the rule of law.”
The president cast the U.S. Constitution as a defender of the values of the American Revolution.
“The framers of our Constitution triumphantly declared to whom the government of the United States belonged – it was ‘We the people,'” he said.
Trump concluded by asking Americans to “rededicate” themselves to the principles of the Constitution in celebration of the holiday.
The president also voiced his support for victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
