Trump: Cut Top Tax Rate, Repeal O’Care Individual Mandate in Tax Push

The president is weighing in on the granular details of the GOP's tax cut efforts on Capitol Hill.

The tax cut effort is moving full steam ahead on Capitol Hill, with the House set to vote on House Republicans’ plan on Thursday.

President Trump will visit with House Republicans in an attempt to rally their support before the vote on Thursday, but he’s already weighing in on some of the granular details of the GOP’s effort.

The president tweeted on Monday that the GOP should add repealing the “unpopular [individual] Mandate” in Obamacare and cutting the top income tax rate to 35 percent (from 39.6 percent) to their agenda:

Cutting the top rate from 39.6 percent to 35 percent would cost billions of dollars, but repealing Obamacare’s individual mandate would save the federal government about $338 billion over the next 10 years, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Tax cuts are clearly on the president’s mind. He tweeted on Monday night (eastern time) that he’s “[e]xcited to be heading home” to push the tax bill through Congress.
