Following the defeat of the American Health Care Act (AHCA), President Trump has been reaching out to advisers to determine why his first major legislative initiative failed.
A tweet this morning indicates Trump has narrowed his focus on who’s to blame:
The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don't get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!

Going after Democrats is no surprise, but the president’s attack on the Freedom Caucus is surprising. While that group is primarily responsible for AHCA’s failure, many Freedom Caucus members were early supporters of Trump’s campaign.
By going after conservative Republicans and Democrats, Trump is in some ways aligning himself with the establishment wing of his party – a move unfathomable by candidate Trump last year.
