The president offered condolences to victims, thanked law enforcement, and quoted Scripture as he addressed the nation.
President Trump addressed the nation in the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, which occurred early Monday morning in Las Vegas.
“We are joined together today in sadness, shock, and grief,” the president said, stressing the importance of American unity. “Our unity cannot be shattered by evil. Our bonds cannot be broken by violence.”
Trump also lauded the courage of the Las Vegas police officers on the scene: “The speed with which they acted is miraculous and prevented further loss of life. To have found the shooter so quickly after the first shots were fired is something for which we will always be thankful and grateful.”
Trump said that the FBI and Homeland Security are assisting local law enforcement in the investigation of the attack, a event he called “an act of pure evil.”
Over 50 people have died in the attack, with 400 more injured.
