At a small talk with college students in Wichita, Kansas, one Trump staffer reveals why Trump booted Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) from the transition team.
On Friday morning, the Wichita Eagle covered Trump transition staffer Alan Cobb’s visit to Wichita State University. Tucked in a small paragraph of the story is a revealing bit on why President-elect Donald Trump booted Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) from his transition team:
“Steve Bannon (Breitbart media executive and Trump’s choice for strategy director) is hardly an insider,” [Cobb] said.
The perception of insiderism also was a factor in Trump switching transition team leaders, Cobb said.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie “was removed and (Vice President-elect) Mike Pence put in because of that,” he said.
Pence took over for Christie in a very public purge of Christie and his confidantes from the transition team last week. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, also has a beef with Christie: the governor, as U.S. attorney, locked up Kushner’s father for tax evasion.
In a Thursday speech, Christie acknowledged the possibility he would leave to serve in a Trump administration. However, when NBC News asked a “senior Trump official” about Christie earning a spot in the administration, the official “merely laughed.”
