Uber CEO Argues With Driver Over Falling Fares

A video obtained by Bloomberg shows Uber CEO Travis Kalanick arguing with an Uber driver about lowered fares for drivers.

A video obtained by Bloomberg shows Uber CEO Travis Kalanick arguing with an Uber driver about lowered fares for drivers.

Kalanick informs the driver that the company is “reducing the number of [Uber] Black cars in system over the next six months.”

The driver informs Kalanick that he saw that email, telling Kalanick, “but you’re raising the standards, and you’re dropping the prices.”

“We’re not dropping the prices on [Uber] Black,” Kalanick informs the driver.

“But in general the whole price is –,” the driver responds.

At this point Kalanick starts getting heated with the driver, “we have to, we have competitors, otherwise, we would go out of business.”

“Competitors? Man, you had the business model in your hands. You could have the prices you want, but you choose to buy everybody a ride,” the driver responds.

The driver and Kalanick proceed to have a heated argument about how the price drop has negatively affected the driver.

“I lost $97,000 because of you, I’m bankrupt because of you,” the driver tells Kalanick. “You keep changing everyday.”

“Hold on a second,” Kalanick shout at the driver. “What have I changed about [Uber] Black?”

“You changed the whole business. You dropped the prices,” the driver responds.

“On [Uber] Black?” Kalanick asks the driver.

The driver tells Kalanick that the prices have dropped.

“Bullshit,” Kalanick screams. “Some people don’t like to take responsibility for their own shit. They blame everything in their life on somebody else.”

At this point Kalanick starts to exit the car, telling the driver good luck sarcastically before slaming the car door.
