The Center for American Progress (CAP) applauds Maxine Waters’ calls for Trump to be impeached.
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) said that she decided ‘a long time ago’ that President Trump should be impeached on Tuesday. She was applauded and cheered on by people attending the Center for American Progress (CAP) Ideas Conference.
“This president is one that I have focused on in ways that some people say ‘oh my god, she said the word impeachment,'” Waters told the audience.
Some in the audience began cheering loudly at the mention of impeachment.
Waters then attacked Democratic Party leadership for claiming they are preventing impeachment proceedings from going forward to protect vulnerable Democrats that live in districts Trump won.
Waters also attacked several members of Trump’s cabinet and claimed that Democrats cannot work with the Trump administration.
“There are some people that say, ‘can’t you try and work with him?’ No, we can not. He’s a liar. He can’t be trusted,” Waters told the audience.
Waters went on to say that she decided a long time ago that Trump should be impeached when she looked at Trump’s allies and their ties to Russia.
Waters claimed that Russian involvement in the 2016 election was all about lifting U.S. sanctions on Russia so that Exxon Mobil can drill in the Arctic.
It should be noted that Trump’s Treasury Department refused to grant Exxon Mobil a waiver to drill in the Arctic.
Waters also thanked the media, saying if it were not for them the American people would not know about collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.
“Something is tragically wrong with the president of the United States of America and his allies,” Waters declared.
Waters said that when an investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia is completed the final analysis will be that, “Maxine Waters was right, you got to impeach him.”
At this statement, the crowd broke out into applause.
Waters told the crowd that America can’t wait until the next election to get rid of Trump. “We don’t need to wait that long,” Waters said. “He will have destroyed this country by then.”
Then Waters cited a Democratic-leaning poll that found 48% of Americans want President Trump to be impeached and asked that audience, “what more do we need in the Congress of the United States of America?”
Waters concluded her remarks by saying Congress doesn’t have to be afraid to use the word impeachment, and that when this investigation is completed Trump will be impeached.
