The View co-host thought it was unfair that Republicans attacked then-candidate Obama over his connections to the controversial pastor.
The View’s Whoopi Goldberg defended controversial pastor Jeremiah Wright on her show on Wednesday.
“I remember months and months and months and months and months and months of Jeremiah Wright,” Goldberg said.
“[Republicans] were pissed at [Wright] because they forgot their history and didn’t realize that Jeremiah Wright had fought for this country and came back and couldn’t vote here,” she continued. “They didn’t realize why Jeremiah was mad at America.”
Goldberg then compared President Obama’s relationship with Jeremiah Wright to President Trump’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Wright once decried the phrase, “God Bless America,” arguing that people should say, “God damn America.” He also praised 9/11 as “America’s chickens are coming home to roost.”
