The 2018 United States Senate election in Missouri will be one of the 18 races to watch in 2018, as it will be one of the most competitive in the upcoming midterm elections it will feature

Who, What, Where, When:

The incumbent Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill is up for reelection in a state that President Donald Trump won by 19 points in 2016.

Currently, the Republican field features several candidates, most notably Missouri’s Republican Attorney General Josh Hawley.

Hawley entered the race at the urging of Vice President Mike Pence and has also received the support of Breitbart’s Steve Bannon.

Why It Matters: McCaskill was narrowly elected to the United States Senate as part of the Democratic wave, which resulted in Democrats retaking control, both Chambers of Congress, in 2006. Republican’s were bullish that they would retake McCaskill’s seat in 2012, but controversial comments by her Republican opponentresulted in a landslide victory for McCaskill.

Now, Republican’s are once again bullish that they will be able to flip McCaskill’s seat in 2018.

According to The Cook Political Report, the 2018 Missouri Senate race is a “toss-up, and political pundits anticipate that it will be one of the most competitive races in the country next year.
