2020? Colorado Gov Says ‘We’ll See’

Gov. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) has more than six months left in office before he’s term-limited out, but he may be thinking about a bid for even higher office very soon.

NPR quizzed Hickenlooper on his 2020 ambitions in an interview published over the weekend (emphasis ours).

[HOST PETER] SAGAL: Just thinking – well, what do you imagine you might be doing, say, two years after that?

SAGAL: Is there anything you’d like to say to this audience or the people listening in, say, Iowa?

HICKENLOOPER: My focus – and I’ve said this a dozen times – we’re going to keep 100 percent of our – no PAC, no committees to run for office. And, two years from now, if everyone else is running, then we’ll see.

Hickenlooper claims he’s focused exclusively on his day job, but he has entertained the question, and inspired 2020 headlines, time and time again in the last several months.

Will the governor ramp up his national plans as other Democrats do the same in 2018 and beyond? His public posturing on the presidential question will be worth watching in the coming months.
