2020 Watch: Cook Goes to Nevada to Announce $350 Billion Investment in the U.S. economy

Apple CEO Tim Cook held a presidential campaign-style event in Reno, Nevada Wednesday to announce Apple’s plans to invest $350 billion in the U.S. economy.

The event was eerily similar to an event Cook held outside the Iowa Statehouse in August last year, which caused speculation that Cook was plotting a 2020 presidential run.

Cook insisted at the time that he’s not interested in running for president in 2020 after questions were raised about why he would barnstorm Ohio and Iowa on the same day.

A bystander might have confused Cook’s event in Reno on Wednesday for a political rally as the tech giant CEO was joined by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval (R-NV) when he announced Apple would invest $350 billion in the U.S. economy and planned on hiring 20,000 workers over the next five years.

Since 2008, the Nevada Caucus has become crucial for anyone hoping to become the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, as it is the first state in the West to hold its primary and is typically scheduled immediately after the Iowa Caucus and New Hampshire primary.

Nevada has also become a crucial swing state in the general election, given the state’s increasing Hispanic population.

Cook’s campaign-style event in a state that is critical to any politician’s presidential ambitions will undoubtedly raise questions about whether Cook is indeed plotting a 2020 presidential run.
