2020 WATCH: On President’s Day, Hillary Clinton Decides To Defend Her Embattled Foundation

Hillary Clinton took to twitter on President’s Day to defend the Clinton Foundation, which was a point of controversy during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Clinton tweeted a link to a Facebook post by former President Bill Clinton, which addressed some the allegations against the Clinton Foundation.

Bill Clinton wrote:

“This is the real news about the Foundation.”

“Nevertheless, spreading false information about the Foundation continues, apparently as part of an ongoing strategy to distract attention from real problems and, over the long run, to completely erase the line between fact and fiction.”

In the Facebook post, the former president said the attacks against the Clinton Foundation began “in earnest with the 2015 publication of the Breitbart-inspired book, Clinton Cash.”

“I have never responded personally to these charges, but out of respect for our donors, partners, and those who work at the Foundation, I think I should—because as we see, attacks, no matter how outrageous, can have a long life,” Bill Clinton continued.

He then listed out several false allegations against the Clinton Foundation, with links to stories pushing back against these allegations.

The Facebook post concluded with the former president listing our some of the initiatives the Clinton Foundation is working on.

However, Bill Clinton glanced over some serious issues with donations that the Clinton Foundation received.

For instance, the Clinton Foundation said that it would not be returning or donating money that it received from disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

The Foundation also accepted millions from foreign governments while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, raising serious ethical questions.

By tweeting out Bill Clinton’s Facebook post on President’s Day is Hillary Clinton trying to address a controversy that hampered her 2016 presidential campaign while also signaling to the American public that she is interested in running for president again in 2020?
