24 Hours Before Ohio Special Election, O’Connor Says He Won’t Support Pelosi

This is the third time that O'Connor has flip-flopped on the question of whether he would support Pelosi.

Democratic congressional candidate Danny O’Connor, who is running in Ohio’s 12th Congressional District special election, has yet again changed his stance on whether he would support Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as leader of the House Democratic Caucus if elected.

This time, O’Connor’s claiming that he would not support Pelosi.

At a canvass kickoff event in Columbus, Ohio, less than 24 hours before the pivotal special election, a reporter asked O’Connor whether he would support Pelosi as leader of the House Democrats if elected.

“I won’t vote for Nancy Pelosi. I’ve said from the beginning I’ll be a consistent voice for new leadership,” O’Connor told the reporter.

During a recent interview with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, though, O’Connor said he would support Pelosi if she is the candidate that House Democrats “put forward.”

This was a stunning backtrack for O’Connor, who had repeatedly insisted that he would not back Pelosi for Democratic leader if elected to Congress. His prior opposition to Pelosi was highlighted by The Columbus Dispatch.

Almost immediately after O’Connor announced his support for Pelosi, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) sent a fundraising email out on O’Connor’s behalf, raising pay-for-play questions.

The reporter Monday followed up by asking O’Connor how he would vote if Pelosi emerges as the favorite and he had to vote on the House floor.

“That’s a hypothetical way down the line that I’m not even focused on right now,” O’Connor said.

This is the third time that O’Connor has flip-flopped on the question of whether he would support Pelosi.
