Months after he became the first sitting U.S. president to meet face-to-face with a leader of North Korea, President Donald Trump is actively mulling a second summit with Kim Jong-un.

The Associated Press tweeted Monday morning that Trump anticipates a second summit with Kim “quite soon.”

Last week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Fox News that he’s “very hopeful” Trump and Kim can meet again “in the near future,” but cautioned there’s a lot of work to do before the two leaders can hold a second summit.

“There’s still a little bit of work to do left to make sure that the conditions are right and that the two leaders are put in the position where we could make substantial progress,” Pompeo said in an interview with Fox News. “I’m hoping I’ll be back in Pyongyang before too long to make some more progress. And if that’s the case, I’m very hopeful that Chairman Kim and President Trump will get a chance to meet in the near future as well.”

The news on North Korea also comes on the heels of Trump’s willingness to meet with leaders of another U.S. adversary, Iran. Pompeo told Fox News on Sunday that Trump would be willing to meet with Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khameini, at the United Nations this week.
